We live in a very self-centered, me-first society. Even advertisers work hard to sell products that get people to focus on themselves. I reference this “I-me” syndrome in my book, Waves of Worship. While our modern culture pushes self, in the Bible, Jesus teaches us to put others before ourselves.
In Matthew 6:25, Jesus said don't even think about your life, what you're going to eat, or drink or wear. I’ve been telling people over the last few years, that, your life is NOT about you. Not everyone wants to hear it, but every one NEEDS to hear it.
Our lives are about others, your life is about others. Now I'm talking to Christ-followers. The world doesn't know this, but the ones who read the Word should know. Even the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 6:19, don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? And in verse 20 he says, you are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which belong to God.
We are now free in Christ, and we should use that freedom to serve others in love. Galatians 5:13
I recently heard a minister say, while he had some free time, he visited a neighbor who just got home from the hospital. Now, I'm thinking, we all have free time, but isn't ALL our time His time? Our time is bought with a great price. Now I know we all have work and school and stuff to do, called life, but isn't all our time His? Didn't He purchase our life and our time and our everything? Isn't our time and thoughts and body, soul and spirit, the property of the Lord? So, your life is NOT your own. Your life is about others. Now do something with your life!
